Anthony
What did the birthday boy say to the painter? Let’s paint the town red.
I do not know Anthony beyond the tip of his brush. I only met him for the first time last Saturday at his showcase event at Red Gourmet in lagos. It was a wonderful experience seeing his work blown up and hung on the wall. For those of you who do not know him, Anthony Azekwoh is a digital artist and one of the best in the country. His brush strokes and level of detailing are nothing short of amazing. His work completely expresses itself and keeps you entranced. He is brilliant.
But you see unlike what you might believe I am not here to talk too much about his art. I am here to talk about the man I met. Anthony is what I would describe as an open book, but not the type you write on. The type that is already filled with its own letters and words and sentences, all you have to do is read. He draws you in to his world making sure you can feel what he feels. He is an open book that feels warm and personal.
I do not know Anthony beyond the tip of his brush but maybe, just maybe the tip is just enough to paint a picture. He is a man that holds you in his embrace because you choose to honor him. He is a man that carefully listens and in turn speaks to you in a manner which can only be described as graceful. He truly wants you to understand.
Talking to Anthony is like talking to an old friend and maybe you can get this same feeling when you look at his work. It holds your attention long enough for you to wonder if you were there when the pixels of his digital brush were mixing to create his wonder.
I am not here to talk much about his art but I am here to talk about the man that I met. Graceful, brilliant, warm, honest and lighthearted. I am grateful to have met him. No. I am grateful to have witnessed him.
I hope his art keeps travelling the world, so that more people can meet the artist who is also art himself.
